The V-2 ("V" stands for Vergeltungswaffen which is German for "vengeance weapon") was the first truly guided missile. It was first launched against London on September 8, 1944; the last was launched on March 27, 1945. There were a total of 1,178 successful launches of the V-2, of which approximately 517 struck London, 537 fell on other parts of Great Britain, 58 fell into the North Sea, and 60 burst in the air over London. The total deaths from V-2 was 2,541.
