Your post says that "Before too long you will be able to use iFrames to embed your custom content." But you can already use iFrame custom tabs to do this. Of course, at this point I'm not sure why anyone would want to have a custom tab in Flash.
Although some iPad users may use the Facebook app which doesn't show custom tabs anyway, there are many other reasons for avoiding all-Flash content.

Nice article, I just posted about this issue at my blog. One of my main concerns is the layout size for Flash templates used within an iFrame. Thanks for the post.

Trying to embed this:

At the time, it was Facebook's way of having a proprietary version of HTML and JavaScript that interacted with their API. But good riddance! Having to deal with these eccentric flavors of coding was a major drag.

Just add target="_blank" or target ="_top" to your tag.

Well, it facilitated programming tabs for Facebook fan pages. But it's been made irrelevant and obsolete by iFrames. RIP.

HTML and FBML are not the same. I suggest you look at some of our older posts about FBML to learn the difference.

FBML is/was Facebook's own version of HTML. However, it's deprecated (doomed) and will not be supported after June 1, 2012.
You want to create custom page tabs either manually (here's our tutorial on how to do this) or by using an iFrame page-tab creator, like TabPress, where you input your HTML, JavaScript and CSS via text boxes and you don't need to create an application yourself.
